Diava Kalambakas

Μέσα σε ένα όμορφο και καταπράσινο περιβάλλον και στους πρόποδες του Κόζιακα σε υψόμ. 280μ βρίσκεται ( 1000 περίπου κάτοικοι) η Διάβα. Ανήκει στο Δήμο Καλαμπάκας και απέχει 3 χλμ. από αυτή. Ανατολικά του χωριού ρέει ο Πηνειός ποταμός, φυσικό όριο με την πόλη της Καλαμπάκας . Στο Δ.Δ. της Διάβας ανήκει και ο παραθεριστικός οικισμός της Κορομηλιάς ( υψόμ. 1150μ). Το παλαιό όνομα του χωριού ήταν Πρεβέντα ( = πέρασμα στη βλάχικη διάλεκτο απο το λατινικό ρήμα praevenio= διέρχομαι. Ενδιαφέρον παρουσιάζουν οι μεταβυζαντινές εκκλησίες της Αγίας Παρασκευής, του Αγίου Δημητρίου και του Αγίου Αθανασίου.

Ο Πηνειός χωρίζει τα Μετέωρα από τη Διάβα. Από τη μια μεριά το μεγαλείο αλλά και η ανυπέρβλητη ομορφιά των Βράχων με την παγκόσμια ακτινοβολία και από την άλλη ένα τοπίο καταπράσινο με τη Διάβα να κρέμεται κυριολεκτικά από  την αγκαλιά του Κόζιακα.

Diava is a beautiful hilly village next to Kalambaka with rich history, traditions and folk customs revived today in the village. A place that is dominated by greens and abundant water and Pinios Meteora separates the read. 8 km from Kalambaka, on the left bank of the Peneus, is the historic community Sarakina, inhabited today by 560 residents, dealing with agriculture.
The Sarakina is known for its famous stone bridge (14th cent.), Which served to transport the villages of Pindos and Aspropotamos. According to tradition, the bridge was cut to three points by thieves who wanted to halt the progress of Ali - Pasha to the Thessalian villages. Here was the famous battle of April 6, 1878 with the Turks.
The bridge connects Sarakina the isolated rock "Petra" in the north, beneath which is built the chapel of the Holy Apostles. Xronologeitai the 17th century, bejewel with murals of various ages.

The cave Theopetra located on the northeast side of the limestone rock, which rises in the community Theopetra, about 4km outside Kalambaka and has an arched entrance, measuring 17 x 3 m or so. The interior consists of a main hall 500 sq.m. some with small niches in the region. The formation of limestone rock Theopetra placed in the upper Cretaceous period (137 million to 65 million years from now). The creation of the cave is therefore subsequent to the above couple. The cave was inhabited during the Middle Paleolithic Period (beginning approximately 130,000 years ago).

This cave is first excavated in Thessaly and the only so far in Greece with continuous anthropogenic layers starting from the Middle Stone Age and up to the end of the Neolithic (3000 BC). The significance of this chronological continuity lies in the fact that for the first time in Greece we can see the transition from Palaiolithiko the Neolithic lifestyle. Among other things, the cave found stone tools Palaeolithic - Mesolithic and Neolithic Age, Neolithic ceramic findings, bone tools, shell jewelry, unique for the Greek gold jewelry of the Palaeolithic, the Mesolithic and Neolithic period, and the famous human footprints of Theopetra dating to 130,000 years ago and are now extremely rare finding not only for Greece but also for Europe.

The excavation started in 1987 by archaeologist Catherine Kyparissis-Dispatch and continued until 2005 when he started the works for the restoration and enhancement of the cave with the establishment of a corridor which serves visitors and People with Disabilities. Currently the works are completed and the cave is open to visitors.
